About DownsFest

Proms in the Park was last held in 2009. Jo, a friend and resident of Hassocks had an idea to bring the music back to Hassocks and at the same time raising some funds for St Peter & St James Hospice; a local charity who’s support means so much to so many. DownsFest was born!

Mike Reinstein
Mike’s songs take witty and wonderful snapshots of the world’s follies and absurdities. He’s a fine finger-picking guitarist too with a developed sense of absurd and a rich way with words. He also has the gift of swinging effortlessly between poignancy, edginess and wry humour.
Charlotte
A female vocalist with a bass guitarist, acoustic guitarist, drummer and electric guitarist as her backing. Charlotte features a mixture of covers including songs by Joan Armatrading, Fleetwood Mac, The Pretenders, The Cranberries, KT Tunstall.

High energy band performing tracks from Free, Led Zeppelin, Steppenwolf, Overdrive will have you dancing and singing along to those classic rock tunes from days gone by. Overdrive members are from the village and the band are active in the local music scene.
DownsFest Youth Choir
A 50 strong youth choir set up solely to perform at DownsFest comprising of Hassocks children ages from 5-18 years.

A 14-year-old singer songwriter/guitarist and has been busking in Brighton and London for the past three years. He has performed in a West End Show as well as many other events. Nathan recently performed on the main stage of Paddle Round the Pier. He sings a variety of well-known popular songs and many of his own songs.

They are a lady’s choir, originally founded by Hassocks WI 10 years ago and now including members from the wider Hassocks community. Just Sing cover a range of light popular music, with the emphasis of singing for the fun and joy it gives.

We support, empower and care for people towards and at the end of life.
We provide expert and compassionate hospice care to adults living in Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Uckfield, Lewes and the surrounding villages.

We also support their families and friends through the challenges of bereavement and grief.

Frequently asked Questions

How can I purchase a ticket?

Tickets are online at EventBrite. A limited number of tickets are also available from Adastra Deli and QD Stationery in Keymer Road, Hassocks

Is there a booking fee?

There is a booking fee when tickets are bought from EventBrite.

How do I get in to the festival?

Your ticket, hard copy or Eventbrite email, will be checked by our admissions team at the entrance gate to the festival. You will be issued with a festival wristband valid for the period of the festival. The wristband will be put on by our admissions team and cannot be removed without breaking the wristband. The wristband permits you re-entry to the festival.

Under 5’s are free – Do they need a ticket?

Yes, everyone entering the festival must have a valid ticket. We have strict limits on numbers of people allowed on the site and so we need to strictly control the number of people entering, including those under 5.

There is no charge for under 5’s but they need a ‘free’ ticket to enter the festival and receive a wristband.

Will there be tickets on the door at the festival?

Yes, as long as they are still available. The price will be Full Price £25 and Youth U18 £15, on the door, cash only.

If I leave the festival can I return?

Yes, the wristband permits you re-entry to the festival anytime.  No admissions after 8pm.

Can I take food and drink outside the festival?

No. To protect the surrounding area and ensure litter is contained within the boundary of the festival we have a strict policy of not allowing any food, glass or drinks to be removed from the festival site, this includes soft drinks. You will be requested to leave all drinks at the gate upon exit.

What is your ‘eco waste’ policy?

In order to reduce our impact upon the environment we try to keep waste to an absolute minimum.  There is a £1 deposit for a reusable ‘glass’ that will be refunded when you return it to the bar for recycling.

What is your policy on Under Age drinking?

The festival operates a zero-tolerance policy to underage drinking and works to the Challenge 25 principle. All festival bars operate a refusals register so please ensure that you bring ID with you as if you are lucky enough to look under 25 you will be challenged. Acceptable forms of ID are a passport, a European Union photocard driving licence or a photographic identity card bearing the national Proof of Age Standards Scheme (PASS) hologram. No other forms of ID will be accepted.

 

Can I bring a picnic?

No. The festival provides a variety of different food traders for you to enjoy. These traders contribute significantly to the costs of putting the event on. In order to support our traders, we regret no food or drink can be brought into the festival, with the exception of infant snacks or special requirements.  As part of our security at the entrance, bags will be searched upon entry.

Do you cater for disabled access and facilities?

Yes. Our festival is on the level, although grass field and there is a disabled toilet.

Can I bring a dog?

Yes, dogs are welcome at our festival but must be kept on a lead at all times. Please also remember to clean up after your furry friend and please don’t forget to bring a water bowl!

Do you have security present?

Yes. There is a comprehensive SIA registered, security team present at the festival site at all times.

Is there parking?

No. We advise you to travel via public transport, Hassocks Station is a ten-minute walk to the festival.  Parking at the event is restricted to the staff, bands and concessions.  Parking in the surrounding area is very limited.

 

What happens if it rains?

In the event of inclement weather, we recommend you come prepared with wellies and a brolly as the site is fully exposed to the weather.

Will there be seating at the festival?

Seating will be limited. You can bring folding chairs and picnic rugs. However, no gazeboes or parasols.

What payment methods are used in the festival.

Cash and card payments are available methods of payment.  Kindly note that card payments are subjected to signal reception of card machines.  There are ATM’s within a short few minutes’ walk of the festival entrance on the high street in Knight’s Budgens and in the high street up towards the station.

Yes. St Peter and St James Hospice is based in the heart of Sussex, in Chailey. They provide expert and compassionate hospice care to adults living in Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Uckfield, Lewes and the surrounding villages. They also support their families and friends through the challenges of bereavement and grief.

Can I volunteer at DownsFest?

Yes, if you are over 16. We need 30 volunteers to put on this festival. The roles will be litter picking, entrance desk and stage assistance.  Please email [email protected] if you are interested

What is your photography policy?

The festival organisers have expressed very clearly that the public may not take images or videos of anyone under the age of 16 without the expressed consent of their parent and guardian.

We will have our event photographer onsite.
